Plans are being set in motion for the Return of the Tribe to be revisited – that saw the Insect Tribe of Papua New Guinea travel to live with the MacIntyre family in Wimbledon and other families. Donal and his wife, an athropology graduate plan to return as a family and live with the tribe next summer. The project started when Donal travelled and lived with the tribe as a lone adventurer – now he is going to accept their invite to bring his family with him next time.

New Book – Journalist’s Notebook to be Published

A new book, by Irish broadcaster, Donal MacIntyre, is to hit the shelves, shortly, tracking the adventures straight from his journalist’s notebook. The former newspaper journalist who has worked across the world and acoss genres from adventure to current affairs, from gangsters to care homes promises to reveal the highs and the lows that go with leading such a mad existence. It will track the time he spent with the Chelsea Headhunters, his travels with the Insect Tribe of Papua New Guinea and his encounters with the Haitian Voodoo Mafia in Miami to name a few. Publisher, Chenile Keogh, said that she was very excited and was certain that” this would be a book that would have something for everyone, a perfect travel companion”. The book is due out in October. MacIntyre’s first book, for BBC WorldWide, ‘One Man Four Lives’ was published in 2000 and was optioned by Columbia Tristar and CBS. MacIntyre is currently working on his next book ‘ Gangster Confidential” which is due for completion in September 2011.

DARE FILMS ANNOUCES NEW CINEMA FEATURE PROJECT

DARE FILMS, the production company behind the internationally acclaimed ‘A Very British Gangster’ announces the documentary sequel. Distribution deals in the UK and France and the US will finance the project which will be directed by Donal MacIntyre. ’The Sins of the Father” is being shot entirely on Red Cameras. Full details are expected in the next forthnight. MacIntyre directed the award winning ” Smoke Is Poison” series of commercials and the Sundance selected feature ” A Very British Gangster”. The film followed the trials and tribulations of a Manchester Crime Boss and was released in cinema in the UK, USA, France and Spain. What is a MUP?

My very favourite investigative gem is the MUP – that is Made Up Phenomena or M.U.P. and this entertains our team weekly as they prepare for the Sunday radio show. Here my editor Innes Bowen explains how we love and seek out the MUPs! It’s Friday lunchtime, and the team from the Donal MacIntyre show is frantically scouring the pages of this week’s newspapers. Me: “What about the one-armed thief who stole a single cufflink?” Phil: “That one’s true, I’m afraid.” Bob: “And the North Yorkshire Police really did have had 200,000 calls about a job ad. Though even if they hadn’t, I’m not sure that story was interesting enough to be a MUP.”
