five goes undercover with macintyre

Five has signed Donal MacIntyre as the face of its current affairs programming it was announced today (THURS).

Irish born MacIntyre, 36, is to front at least twelve hours of programming in 2003 including investigative journalism, social affairs issues and other current affairs topics.

He will also produce and present a new undercover project developed by Extreme Production in Northern Ireland.

MacIntyre said: I'm delighted to be working with Five. It's a fantastic opportunity to combine my experience with the innovation and excitement for which Five has built a reputation.

MacIntyre's previous credits include MacIntyre Undercover in November 1999 for the BBC where, after two years of research, he infiltrated organised football violence, which resulted in two Chelsea football hooligans being convicted of conspiracy to commit violent disorder. He also exposed abuses within care homes and the fashion industry.

Five's Director of Programmes, Kevin Lygo, said: This is a great coup for the channel and underlines our commitment to attracting the best talent in the industry to Five.

Five's Senior Programme Controller News and Current Affairs, Chris Shaw, said: Donal MacIntyre is a passionate journalist with conviction. This is part of our move into advocacy journalism and he is the perfect person to take this style of reporting forward on Five.

Note to Editors:
Donal MacIntyre won two RTS Awards in 1997 for a film on drug dealing by night-club bouncers when he spent 11 months undercover as a bouncer in Nottingham.

Before working at the BBC, where he has just finished filming a series on extreme weather, and is working on his latest series of MacIntyre Investigates, MacIntyre worked for ITV's World in Action.
