Undercover reporter to join Five's current affairs
Donal MacIntyre has been poached by Five to become its new face of current affairs.

The undercover journalist will do 12 hours of programmes this year.

MacIntyre, 36, is thought to have signed for a six-figure sum.

He will continue to do some work for the BBC but his investigation work will be solely for Five, the renamed Channel 5.

He rose to prominence with his MacIntyre Undercover show in 1999 which saw him infiltrate a gang of football hooligans. Two Chelsea supporters were subsequently convicted of conspiracy to commit violent disorder.

He also posed as a care worker, and got caught up in the fashion industry to show its seedy side.

Last year he was seen following crime routes by deliberately getting mugged and showing where the stolen booty ended up.

The Irish-born star's new role at Five will see him involved with investigative journalism, social issues and other current affairs.

MacIntyre will also return to undercover work, producing and presenting a new project being developed by Extreme Production in Northern Ireland which is still in its early stages.

He said: "I'm delighted to be working with Five. It's a fantastic opportunity to combine my experience with the innovation and excitement for which Five has built a reputation."
