DLP - In the Media
Tuesday 30th November 2004 saw The Dental Law Partnership feature in a Channel 5 documentary on the dental profession. In a detailed case-lead film, investigative journalist, Donal McIntyre, explored the relationship between the dental profession, its Regulatory Body, The General Dental Council, and the general public in a program entitled. ‘Can you trust your dentist?’

Greg Waldron, one of our partners was happy to assist in the research for the film and appear in front of the camera. Our particular interest is in the role of the Regulator in ensuring that all dentists have appropriate professional indemnity insurance in place at all times in order to ensure that the general public are protected. Unfortunately the risk of being harmed by a dentist without insurance, or the means to compensate harmed patients, is significant. Currently the General Dental Council does not check dentists’ insurance status before allowing them to practise and we are lobbying to change the Council’s policy and ensure that all patients are protected.

The day following Greg’s appearance on the small screen, he acted as a witness in a case at the General Dental Council which involved precisely the issues raised in the program – all part of the Partnership’s aim to ensure better protection for the public and access to justice for dental patients.
