FIVE, the renamed Channel Five, has a new face to host its current affairs programme.
Undercover reporter Donal MacIntyre is reported to gave been poached by Five and to have signed for a six-figure sum. MacIntyre first rose to prominence in the public eye when he aired his show MacIntyre Undercover in 1999. His debut into the world of television saw him infiltrate a gang of foot- ball hooligans, two of whom were subsequent- ly convicted of conspiracy to commit violent disorder. It was just the beginning. Other editions of the show saw him pose as a care worker and exposing the seedy underworld of the fashion industry. His most controversial show was when he was seen following crime routes by getting mugged on purpose and showing where the stolen goods ended up. He will continue doing work for the BBC, but his main investigation work will be for Five. The Dublin-born journalist ’s new role at Five will see him conducting investigative journalism, becoming the new face of social issues and current affairs. The Irish star said:“I ’m delighted to be working with Five. It ’s a fantastic opportunity to combine my experience with the innovation and excitement for which Five has built a rep- utation.” MacIntyre is also due to return to under- cover work with a new project being devel- oped by Extreme Production in Northern Ireland. The project, which is being produced and presented by MacIntyre,is still in its early stages. 17 January 2003 The Irish World http://www.theirishworld.com/pdf/2003/831%20-%2017.01.2003/13.pdf |
