Police free Noonan murder suspect

A man arrested on suspicion of stabbing a Manchester gangster to death has been released without charge.
Desmond Noonan's body was found in Merseybank Avenue, Chorlton, on Friday.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said the arrested man had lived in the Chorlton area of Manchester.

The police spokesman said the man is "no longer living in Manchester and will not be doing so for the foreseeable future".

Convicted criminal

A post-mortem examination revealed Noonan died from a knife wound to the abdomen.

The 45-year-old convicted criminal had appeared on Channel Five's MacIntyre's Underworld documentary on Tuesday boasting he had "more guns than the police".

Attempts by Greater Manchester Police to prevent the programme being shown were overturned in the High Court at the 11th hour on Tuesday.

Magistrates granted police a 24-hour extension to question their suspect until 1300 GMT on Thursday, after which they had to charge or release him.
