Noonan held in gun quiz

HELD: Dominic NoonanDOMINIC NOONAN, who featured in a controversial television documentary about the city's underworld, has been arrested on suspicion of a firearms offence in Darlington.

He was stopped by Durham police on Monday along with three other men and was last night in custody being questioned by detectives on suspicion of possessing a revolver.

His brother Dessie was killed on the Merseybank Estate, in Chorlton, last March just days before a television documentary made by journalist Donal MacIntyre was screened.

HELD: Dominic Noonan

The fly-on-the-wall style programme focussed on the Noonan family.

A man has since been charged with Dessie's murder.

Injunction

Days before the documentary was shown, Greater Manchester Police applied for a temporary injunction banning the broadcast, which they feared could interfere with their investigation into Dessie's death.

Although GMP won their case at the High Court, the Court of Appeal overturned the ruling.

Dessie's funeral - which was also filmed by Donal MacIntyre - took place in Northenden last month.

Estimates that more than 3,000 people could attend led to the closure of nearby schools, but on the day around 300 people paid their respects.

One of Dessie's seven brothers, Damien Noonan, was killed at the age of 37 when he fell from a motorbike while on holiday in the Dominican Republic in 2003.
