Donal eyes our mean streets - Hard-hitting look at violence in Belfast

TOP UNDERCOVER investigative reporter, Donal MacIntyre, will soon have Ulster in his sights - in a new hard-hitting telly series.

For the award-winning journalist is set to expose the mean streets of Belfast, as part of his latest exploration into the world of crime and violence.

The city will be in the spotlight in a 30-minute programme of the upcoming series of Britain's Toughest Towns - due this summer.

And the series - part of MacIntyre's lucrative deal with Channel Five - could hit telly screens, as early, as July.

The trailblazing reporter's agent, Seamus Lyte, confirmed last night that C5 is due to screen the series.

A C5 spokeswoman said Donal will narrate each documentary, and also be seen on screen, presenting the show.

However, she said that there would be no more details on the exact content of Britain's Toughest Towns, until closer to the time of transmission.

Dublin-born Donal has made a formidable reputation in the world of undercover reporting, over the past decade.

His groundbreaking 1999 BBC series, MacIntyre Undercover, exposed the violent world of soccer hooligans, abuse in care homes, and the underbelly of the fashion industry.

His fearless reporting forced him to live in a safe house for a year, after he received a series of chilling death threats, connected to his soccer hooligan investigation.

MacIntyre, who makes programmes with leading Ulster independent TV company, Extreme Productions, is a regular visitor to Northern Ireland.

One of the 39-year-old intrepid investigator's latest missions, will be swimming the English Channel, this August - in aid of the charity Mencap.
