Derek McDuffus, 41, was at Manchester yesterday remanded in custody for a week charged with murdering local gangster Desmond Noonan. Also remanded was Shajahan Cooke, 39, charged with perverting the course of justice.

Mob murder: 2 charged 0

A MAN and a woman were today charged in connection with the murder of one of Britain’s most notorious gangsters.

Desmond Noonan, 46, was found stabbed close to his Manchester home on March 18 and later died in hospital.

He was killed just days before a documentary was aired on Channel Five in which he bragged to investigative reporter Donal MacIntyre about being linked to 25 murders.

Derek McDuffus, 41, originally from the South Manchester area, has been charged with the murder of Noonan.

Shajahan Cooke, 39, of Chorlton is accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Both were due to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Two men have been charged in connection with the murder of one of Britain’s most notorious gangsters.

Desmond NoonanA man charged with murdering Manchester gangland leader Desmond Noonan has been remanded in custody.
Derek McDuffus, 41, originally from south Manchester, appeared before Manchester magistrates on Wednesday.

Mr Noonan’s body was found in Merseybank Avenue, Chorlton, on 18 March. He had died from a knife wound.

Shajahan Cooke, 39, from Chorlton, was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and was also remanded in custody until next week.

Mr McDuffus and Ms Cooke are due to appear before Manchester Crown Court on 6 April.

A MAN has been charged with the murder of gangland boss Desmond Noonan.

Derek McDuffus, 41, from Chorlton, Manchester was charged late last night.

A 39-year-old woman, Shajahan Cooke, known as Jan, was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice after being arrested at the same time as McDuffus.

Both McDuffus and Cooke were due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court today.

Derek McDuffus, 41, from Chorlton, Manchester, was charged late last night.

A 39-year-old woman, Shajahan Cooke, known as Jan, who was arrested at the same time as McDuffus, was charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and attempting to assist an offender.

Both McDuffus and Cooke appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody until April 6, to appear at Manchester Crown Court.

A man and a woman appeared in court today charged in connection with the murder of one of Manchester’s most notorious gangsters.

Derek McDuffus, 41, of Merseybank Avenue, Chorlton, Greater Manchester, appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of Desmond Noonan.

Shajahan Cooke, 39, also of Merseybank Avenue, appeared alongside McDuffus charged with perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender with intent to impede arrest.
