Donal MacIntyreDonal MacIntyre investigates a hidden form of domestic abuse in 3’s Thursday Doco – MacIntyre Investigates: Parents Under Attack, screening on Thursday, June 2nd at 8:30pm.

Justine, Pauline and Jeanette are all loving parents, but each one of them shares a dark and disturbing secret – they have systematically been beaten, attacked and abused by their children.

The three women’s experiences are just the tip of the iceberg. Victims of this nature are often too ashamed or terrified to speak out – a taboo which is masking the full scale of this problem.

Chorus Wild-Water World Cup

A silver medal in the team race for the Irish team was an added bonus to the superb racing that occurred on the river Shannon at the Chorus Wild-Water World Cup events on the 21st-22nd of May.

The E.S.B. released 45 cubic metres per second from Ardnacrusha dam to provide flood conditions for the races held between Castleconnell and Clareville, Co.Limerick, on the river Shannon.

This proved more than enough to test the ability of the 170 competitors from 21 countries who were competing in the Chorus Wild-water World Cup events, which are part of a six-race series.

Two events were held in England last week, two in Castleconnell last weekend and the final two rounds will be held in Wales next weekend.

A notorious football hooligan nicknamed "Nightmare" was today facing jail for abusing Asians at an extremist Islamic rally.

But the Old Bailey jury did not know that Frain had been exposed as a main player in the infamous Chelsea Headhunters by undercover BBC reporter Donal MacIntyre.

He was filmed with accomplice Jason Marriner organising football violence and was later convicted of conspiracy to cause violent disorder and sentenced to four years in prison. During the filming he was alleged to have been a facist and a member of the Ku Klux Klan.

Donal MacIntyre’s fly-on-the-wall TV documentaries give startlingly edgy insights into links between injustice, poverty and crime. He tells Mary O’Hara why he does it

Donal MacIntyre is fresh from the set of Five’s mid-morning chat show, The Wright Stuff, and, flush with adrenalin, is bounding about full of smiles. He is a celebrity, of sorts. But the chirpy blandness of daytime TV sits oddly with his role as investigator into the seamier side of society, a man who makes films about abuse, violence and organised crime.

When he finally relaxes into a chair, I ask him about his recent fly-on-the-wall documentary series for Five, in which he recorded with startling candour the everyday lives of some of Britain’s most notorious gangsters and their associates. It provided at times jaw-dropping insights into the banal viciousness of the criminal mind, and the relationship between crime, poverty and violence.
